Home Sweet Home

With spring having arrived, it was a pleasure to frame a few bright and cheerful landscape paintings, by West Wellow artist Hilary Buttle. Hilary used my "in-home/in-office" service for the initial design discussion. There are several benefits to the customer in having me visit. It can be done at a convenient time, in the comfort of the home, while design dimensions, and colours, can be looked at in relation to where it is hanging, taking into consideration, the light, room décor and architecture.
My job is to  help realize the client's instinct, for how to successfully display the picture in a way that enhances the work without distracting from it. To this end I often find that keeping it simple works best. Hilary's evocative and tranquil depiction of a French Street Market was full of vibrant colours (pictured left, click to enlarge). we used a relatively wide mount border and a broad flat frame. Being hand painted, we were able to match the frame colour (Wimborne White), closely with the mountboard. I felt the finished frame gave a contemporary and elegant surround to the painting.
Hilary is a member of the Chandlers Ford Art Group that has its Spring Exhibition 2015, at Haskins Garden Centre over the May Bank Holiday (23rd - 25th May).

On a personal note, for my new hobby, I was up early this morning, bringing two swarms of bees, to their new home. I know nothing about beekeeping, so I hope they will look after themselves! I am comforted to know I can get help and advice from the Romsey and District Beekeepers' Association. My framing customers may well be getting "Free Honey" offers soon.
